Board Rules

Logical debate between parties with differing opinions is a well-established and valuable means of analysis that provides both debaters and observers opportunities to weigh various sides of an issue, so as long as all parties maintain polite mutual respect. Where they do not, debates degrade to arguments that tend to do more harm than good. The expected standard of conduct in these Ham Radio forums is significantly higher than at many other Internet forums even though published rules may seem similar. Please read the Ham Radio Forum Rules carefully before posting. You can expect to quickly lose posting rights and possibly even guest access to this site if you fail to observe the posted rules or fail to exhibit polite mutual respect for other members.

Posting Rules

Posts must be made in relevant forums.
Read forum descriptions before posting. Posts to inappropriate forums may be deleted or moved to different forums by forum moderators. Members who consistently post to an inappropriate forum may receive a warning.
Top

Use a short, descriptive title when starting a new topic.
Topic titles such as "Wow!!!", "This is great!", "Look at this..." are poor, because they don't provide enough information to enable busy readers to judge whether they should read what has been posted. Forum moderators may change meaningless, misleading, poorly worded, misspelled, or unusually long topic titles. Make titles short and descriptive to avoid wasted time and attract the attention interested visitors.
Top

Write titles and post text in a manner consistent with normal writing.
Try to write with language that is easy to read and understand. Do not use excessive numbers of emoticons or excessive amounts of large, small or colored text. Do not "SHOUT" by typing topic titles or message text with all capital letters. Do not use excessive numbers of punctuation characters such as "!" or "?". Take care to not use undefined terminology or abbreviations that many forum visitors will not understand (terminology and abbreviations that are well-known to most forum members are acceptable). Members who frequently abuse these guidelines may be warned. Forum moderators may sometimes correct spelling mistakes or reword poorly written text to make it easier to understand.
Top

Be respectful to others.
Flaming, defaming, insulting or otherwise abusing others will not be tolerated and will result in a warning.
Top

Do not try to function as an unofficial moderator.
You are welcome to bring an issue to the attention of an official moderator if you think it needs attention. Please use the forum "post report" function to report issues in individual posts. Do not try to resolve violations yourself by posting public remarks, because public remarks from other members often enflame emotions and make bad situations even worse. Members who do that may be warned.
Top

Do not post offensive content.
Pornographic or otherwise offensive text, images, audio files, or links to such content will not be tolerated. Insulting, indecent, and vulgar language including all thinly disguised, impolite, common-usage swear words or vulgar words and phrases using letter substitutes such as **, ##, etc. will be not be tolerated. Off-color or rude jokes and all other similar expressions are inappropriate and will not be tolerated. Those types of expressions tend to degrade both the forum and the individuals who use them. They would be inappropriate even if forum access was restricted to its members, but where the forum is publicly accessible worldwide by anyone of any age, religious persuasion, or cultural background they are even more inappropriate. Beyond those considerations, Google and various other search engines generally give websites containing content like that lower search-result-rankings which affects the likelihood that others interested in PAKHAMs will find Foro PAKHAMs. Violating the obvious spirit and intent of anything within this rule will result in at least a warning and, depending on severity, may result in immediate suspension of registered-member privileges.
Top

Respect copyrights.
Members who violate copyright laws may be warned and their posts may be deleted.
Top

Respect others Internet bandwidth.
Inline message tags that load data, images or media stored on third-party systems without written permission from those parties may be removed and violators may be warned.
Top

Spam will not be tolerated.
Members who frequently post relevant messages to the forum are welcome to link to other websites if, and only if, those websites relate to PAKHAMs. Those links will not be considered spam. However, anyone who posts spam or links to a site unrelated to PAKHAMs will be warned and their post will be removed.
Top

Forum management reserves the right to edit or remove any post.
Determinations of whether posted content violates these rules will be made solely by the forum administrator or a forum moderator and not by other forum members.
Top

Where applicable, these rules also apply to private messages.
Abuse of the Private Messaging (PM) system may result in warnings and revocation of Private Messaging privileges.
Top

Members are welcome to appropriately use the test forum.
The test forum may be used to check signatures, avatars, inline image displays, text formatting, link functioning, and similar purposes. However, anyone who repeatedly posts in the test-forum merely to increase their post-count will be warned.
Top

Member Signatures

Active members are welcome to use signature links.
Members who regularly participate in forum discussions are welcome to have signature links to PAKHAMs websites. Signature links to other types of websites are prohibited and will result in a warning.
Top

Signatures can contain a maximum of two links.
Signatures can contain one or two hyperlinks to other websites. Linked sites may be commercial sites only if they sell PAKHAMs products. You may not link to porn, political, racist or hate sites. Link characters are included in signature character length limits. Members violating this rule will be warned.
Top

Signatures can be up to 255 characters in length.
Signatures can be up to 255 characters in length and in addition can include one image no more than 468 pixels wide by 60 pixels high and up to 5kB in file size. Animated images are not allowed in signatures. Members violating the animated image rule will be warned.
Top

Signature text size must be between 75% and 100%.
Signature text size must be between 75% and 100% (between small and normal). Signature text is subject to the same restrictions as posts in regard to decency, use of all capital letters, emoticons, excessive punctuation, etc. Members violating this rule will be warned.
Top

Member Avatars

Members are welcome to use an appropriate avatar.
Registered members are welcome to use a gallery avatar or upload a custom avatar from their own computer. User-provided avatars must be no larger than 145 pixels square, contain no image that attempts to portray the user as having an official status here that the user doesn't actually have (such as mimicking ranks or copying Administrator or Moderator avatars), and must not exceed 12kB in file-size. Furthermore, avatars that are pornographic, insulting, or offensive will not be tolerated and may result in a warning or immediate suspension of registered-member privileges, depending on severity.
Top

Avatars must not violate posting rules.
Avatar content is subject to the same conditions as posts with respect decency, etc.
Top

Avatar privleges can be lost.
Members abusing any of these avatar rules will be warned and may lose their avatar privileges.
Top

Rule Policing

Three-warning limit over three months.
Members are subject to a three-warning limit over three months. A temporary ban of up to seven days duration will be imposed if a member causes reason for a fourth warning within any three-month period.
Top

Arguing with a Moderator will be counter-productive.
Arguing with a Moderator about a warning will result in one or more additional warnings.
Top

Members who think they have been warned unfairly.
Members who think they have been warned unfairly may privately contact and explain their reasons to the Administrator or Moderator issuing the warning one time. The warning will be removed if the Administrator or Moderator agrees with the member.
Top

Circumventing a temporary ban.
Any attempt to circumvent a temporary ban will result in the ban becoming permanent. Circumvention includes registering under a different username, using a different IP address to evade an IP address ban, or registering with a different e-mail account to evade an e-mail-account ban.
Top

Insulting, indecent or vulgar message exception.
An exception to the three-warning limit applies where a member contacts the Administrator or a Moderator personally via any means and communicates insulting, indecent or vulgar messages. Any member doing that should anticipate an immediate and permanent ban.
Top

Permanent bans are a last resort.
There will be no risk of a permanent ban if a member makes a good-faith attempt in a professional manner to resolve any problems that arise.
